Eleven Al-Qaeda linked militants, who were captured by Jordanian officials on Sunday, were planning major attack on Western diplomatic missions, hotels and airports with stockpile of rockets smuggled from Syria, media reported.

The men with ties to Al-Qaeda militants in Iraq have been plotting attacks since June with explosives smuggled from Syria to launch major strike in the capital of Jordan, Amman.
“These 11 terrorists were Jordanian nationals with clear ties to Al Qaeda targeting the security and stability of Jordan,” Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Samih Maaytah said during a press conference on Sunday detailing the foiled plot, Jordanian Times reported.
According to the minister, the preparations were made using computer technology with an Al-Qaeda weapons’ expert in Iraq.
The men had planned to strike two shopping centers as a part of “dress rehearsal” before they launched an all out attack using car bombs, suicide bombers and guerilla-style attacks.
The minister has refused to name the embassies the attackers had targeted, but Jordanian Times said quoting a government source said that the militants’ primary targets were British and U.S embassies.
In 2005 militants carried out attacks on hotels in Amman killing 65 people and wounding more than 100 people.
