Two Indian women salary for past 40 years is $ 0.28cts a month-Despite promises promises

Names of two Indian women could possibly be entered into the record books as the lowest paid government workers.

Both have been paid $ 0.28 cents for the past 40 years, without taking a day off, for scrubbing toilets at a government run Women Teacher Training Institute in Southern India. With financial difficulties both Akku and Leela Sherigar had managed to save a measly $ 103 each. Both started their “career” in 1971.
Akku said, “We were promised a pay rise [sic] every year, but it never came. We trusted our employers that eventually they’d pay us. We never believed it’d come to this. We take pride in our work. We couldn’t give it up. We have always hoped that we would get what we were promised.”
In 2001, they took up the wage issue with Karnataka administrative office, the “stinking”  bureaucrats instead of raising their salaries fired both without any explanation or proper compensation. But the duo continued scrubbing toilets for the past 11 years without pay-free of charge.
Despite anger and disappointment, the duo with the assistance of families, friends and well-wishers have applied to the Guinness Books of World Records with high hopes that their situation would be known to the world.
“All we want is what is due to us, what our hard work through the past 42 years deserves,” Akku said.
