Libya’s
newly elected Prime Minister, Mustafa Abu Shagur has been dismissed by
vote of no confidence after he named 10 new ministers, forcing the
country’s General National Congress to look for a new face, Libyan media reported
The
GNC will now have to select a new Prime Minister for Libya, who will
have to follow the same process, in the hope that he could produce a
cabinet that would meet the expectations of the GNC, something that is
not easy to achieve as Abu Shagur’s short lived term has demonstrated, the Tripoli Post said
Shagur was given 25 days since September 12 to form a cabinet to win the legislature’s approval.
That deadline expired on Sunday when he put forth 10 names for key ministerial posts that however were not approved by the GNC who voted on a no confidence motion with 125 to 44 in favor of removing him as prime minister. There were also 19 abstentions, the newspaper said.
Last week, the prime minister put forward names of 29 persons for government’s key posts. But the GNC disapproved the list stating it was not representing the country.
