least 17 people have been killed when suspected Islamic militants Boko
Haram went on a rampage in the Nigerian northeastern state of Yobe on
Sunday, juts six days after they attacked a federal polytechnic killing
40 students, Nigerian media said.

“BARELY six days after the Independence’s day tragedy in Mubi, Adamawa State, where over 40 students were murdered by yet-to-be identified gunmen, suspected Boko Haram militants, on Saturday evening in Yobe State, went on the rampage, killing about 17 persons, in Doko Kuka village”, The Nigerian Tribune said.

Sources said army units which were rushed to the village where 17 people were killed confronted the attackers, but the militants retreated into the jungles after trading heavy gun fire for approximately for 45 minutes. The Nigerian army claimed at least 30 militants were killed in the battles including the local leader for Boko Haram sect. But the claims could not be verified from independent sources.
A resident has told the newspaper that “it was pandemonium for 45 minutes with bullets flying everywhere.
Boko Haram is fighting to create an independent state with strict Muslim laws. The group is suspected of links with Al-Qaeda.
