Reporters covering Jerry Sandusky’s case must stick to “time” to report or tweet news

Reporters covering former convicted Penn State University Football coach Jerry Sandusky’s sex scandal have been ordered to synchronize all their digital equipment with the court’s master wall clock to avoid transmission of any information while the court is in session.

The new order comes as some news outlets reported or tweeted the news long before the others, when the jury returned its verdict in June this year, the Washington Post reported.
The court says if any reporters found in violation of court order, they would be face fines or summary incarceration.

The Judge John M.Cleland in his order wrote “Imposing sanctions, however, became problematic because of the difficulty of proving the precise time of transmission in relation to the time announced for adjournment,” Cleland wrote. “The addition of a clock at the front of the courtroom is intended to address this problem.”
So far one reporter has been found in violation of the decorum.
