IRS turns blind-eye on politicized tax-exempt organizations, loses $ 100B annually

The Internal Revenue Service is losing $ 100 billion a year by allowing politicized churches to enjoy a tax-exempt status, a lawsuit claims.

In a civil complaint the Freedom from Religion Foundation says that IRS has failed to collect $ 100 billion a year from churches although many of them found in violation of tax-exempt status. The IRS since 1945 has allowed organizations including churches from publicly supporting political campaigns.
It said that during President Bush and Clinton’s term, the IRS raided churches that involved in campaigns, but stopped the raids after Obama became the president.
The foundation claims that it lodged numerous complaints with IRS but no action was taken. It cited Catholic Bishop Robert Morlino of Madison, Wisconsin for telling his congregation that “in good conscience” they cannot vote for pro-choice candidates to office.
A Bishop in Illinois, Daniel Jenky during a sermon compared President Obama to Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler. Bill Graham, the popular evangelical preacher bought space in various periodicals including the Wall Street Journal to vote for candidates who opposed abortions and same sex marriage.
Just before the elections hundreds of priests taunted the IRS as part of Pulpit Freedom Sunday.
