Lebanese Intelligence chief General Wissam al-Hassan was among the eight people killed in the car bomb that ripped Central Beirut on Friday.
General al-Hassan of Internal Security forces played a key role to arrest former Lebanese Information Minister Michael Samaha, who had close links with Syrian president Bashar-al-Assad. Samaha was charged for attempting to carry out attacks on Lebanon soil and transporting explosives into the country.
The ISF was actively seeking to arrest those responsible for attacks and assassinations between the periods of 2004-2008, including the murder of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, who was killed in a suicide attack in 2005 in downtown Beirut.
