The murder of two children aged two and six by the deadly housemaid has ignited anger and disbelief among the 76th
street community in Manhattan, who are searching for clues why the
nanny carried out such a heinous crime in the affluent neighborhood.
Lucia Krim, 6, known as Lulu and her younger brother Leo, who just turned two, was brutally stabbed to death by their nanny, 50 year old Yoselyn Ortega who goes by the name of “Josie” in the family’s luxury apartment on Thursday night.
Hundreds of messages were posted on Live Journal, where the children mother Marina Krim maintained a digital diary constantly updating about her children’s activities. One message read “May your beautiful souls rest in perfect peace and God give your parent and sibling the strength, courage and favor needed in these sad times,” read one comment. “I will pray for you every waking moment, God bless this family.”
Marina Krim last posted a message on Live Journal just three hours before her children were found stabbed to death in their apartment. “Leo speaks in the most adorable way possible,” read the post from 2:33 p.m. Thursday. “Firstly, he speaks super clearly, so you can understand every word he is saying.
“And he does things like ‘(I) want a fresh bagel’ and ‘Dito (what he calls himself) wants cold milk’ and most adorable of all, ‘No thank you.’’, Krim wrote.
The Krims moved to New York only last year from San Francisco. Kevin Krim is the senior vice president and general Manager at CNBC digital. The CNBC in a statement said “A member of the CNBC family has suffered an unimaginable loss,” according to a statement from NBC Universal. “The sadness that we all feel for Kevin, Marina and their family is without measure.”
While the grief-stricken family is coming to grip with the murder of their children, details of the horrible crime has begun to emerge.
When Marina Krim returned home around 5.30 pm on Thursday with her three year daughter Nessie, who was nick named as “fast and furious”, by the nanny’s family last year when they visited to meet her folks in Dominican Republic, she noticed the lights have been switched off.
She returned to lobby to find-out from the doorman whether he saw the children when he said no, she rushed upstairs and found her children stabbed to death in the family’s bathroom and the nanny slitting her throat with a kitchen knife.
Marina Krim seeing her children dead has screamed top of her lungs “help me, help me’, which the neighbors have described as “primal screaming”. One neighbor has told the British newspaper, The Daily Mail that “they were not human. They were very deep, dark screams.’
When the medics arrived at the scene they had found the children breathing, but both succumbed to their injuries to the nearby hospital. The nanny, according to news reports would have taken some sort of pills before she allegedly murdered the children. She is in critical condition with medically induced coma.
A condolence message which was left outside the apartment read Dear Krim Family. We weep with you at your horrible loss. There are no words that can express our sadness. We pray for you and your beautiful children.
‘Every mother and father weeps with you and your family during this dark time’.
