Former
team mate of Lance Armstrong, the Norwegian cyclist, Steffen Kjærgaard
has admitted using banned blood booster known as EPO during Tour de
France alongside of the American, Norwegian media reported.
Kjærgaard said he started doping on his own initiative in 1998 when with the Danish Chicky World team, going on to meet with Belgian doctor George Mouton for “advice” to “avoid the risk of being caught”, the Local edition of Norway quoted.
He has said that he joined the US Postal team in 2000 and 2001 and raced along the disgraced Armstrong.
“Doping at the time was contagious and the team arranged all”, he added. “The team arranged everything and there were number of “players” involved in scheme”, he said.
Steffen Kjærgaard’s admission comes hard on the heels after the International Cycling Union stripped Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France winnings.
