Hurricane Sandy has left a trail of destruction in Jamaica before changing its course towards Cuba and the Bahamas.

Government on Wednesday clamped down an indefinite curfew in many areas following reports of rampant looting. Schools and business were shut down and rescue workers rushed residents from low-lying areas to make-shift shelters as rain and heavy winds pounded Jamaica.
Several areas were under flood waters and 80 percent of the Islanders were without power. One man has been reported dead in a village in Kingston, according to reports.

Hurricane Sandy made a land fall on Wednesday afternoon just five miles off the capital city. Flights in and out of Jamaica were halted until further instructions. Cruise ships too changed their course until the weather improved.
One police officer was injured when he attempted to prevent looting on the west side of Kingston. Many people have refused to leave their homes in fear of their belongings being stolen.

While the residents refused to leave, Crocodiles unable to withstand the rising waters have taken refuge in some housing districts, reports added.
The national hurricane center in Miami said that Sandy would grow in size before heading towards Cuba.
