The 10 month old baby, Saanvi Venna, who was snatched violently from the arms of her grandmother
in King of Prussia on Monday, has been found dead, in a crime that has
sent shock waves through a small community in the suburbs of
Philadelphia.
The location where her body was found has not been made public.
The baby’s grandmother, 61 year old Satyavathi Venna, who was baby-sitting at the time of the crime, was found brutally murdered.
The grandmother of the baby had arrived from Andhra Pradesh in July and was scheduled to return home in January. Investigators would not immediately say how the grandmother was killed.
Police said a person of interest has been taken into custody, but refused to divulge more information as investigations were continuing. Police said more details about the arrest and the location where the body was discovered would be disclosed at a news conference in the late afternoon.
Baby Saanvi’s parents, father Venkata Konda Siva Venna, and mother Chenchu Latha Punuru, immigrated to the US from India in February 2007. The couple lived in San Antonio, Cleveland and Troy, Michigan, before moving to the Philadelphia-area apartment complex in June this year.
Police assisted by volunteers and K-9 units conducted massive search behind the apartment building on Wednesday. But returned without success. The Indian community along with several other organizations offered a reward of $ 30,000 leading to the safe return of the baby.
