President
Obama came out firing on all cylinders against his political rival Mitt
Romney at the third and final debate held in Florida on Monday night.
The calm and composed President attacked Romney from all four flanks over the latter’s foreign policy.
Both clashed over Iran’s nuclear program, the Arab spring, Syria and Libya, and at some instances over domestic economy. Obama said that Governor Romney has changed his positions on foreign policy repeatedly and stopped short of calling him as an “inconsistent” leader if elected as the President of the United States.
He said “you have been all over the map” on the whole range of issues, whether it’s Iran, Afghanistan or the Middle East. Romney counter attacked over Obama’s policies in Syria and Iran. He criticized the president for not stopping the bloodbath in Syria and not for tightening the screws on Iran over its nuclear program.
“I thought they saw weakness where they had been expected to find American strength,” Romney said of leaders in Tehran, accusing the president of making “apology tours” abroad, Romney said.
Obama shot back saying that nothing Romney said was true and calling his Iran accusations was a “tactical move” to gain voter confidence and dubbed it as the ‘’biggest whopper”.
Obama mocked Romney claiming that he has run down the armed forces to the lowest level not seen in the 20th century.
“You mentioned the navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets because the nature of our military’s changed,” he said to laughter from the audience.
“We have these things called aircraft carriers where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines.
“So the question is not a game of Battleship where we’re counting ships. It’s what are our capabilities?”
Romney losing his composure following heavy gunfire settled down to congratulate the president for “taking out” Osama Bin Laden, but changed the course to warn the president that US government cannot kill its way out of this mess. Romney also said that president was making apology tours around the world.
