Louisiana-Three men, who set a woman on fire, fled the scene of the
crime after spray painting victim’s car with racial slur over the
weekend, police and media reported.
Sharmeka Moffitt, 20, has told the police she was attacked by three men wearing white hoodies at a park near Franklin Parish on Sunday. On Monday at a News conference police confirmed the incident and stated that the letters “KKK” were scrawled on her car.
Police chief of Winnsboro, Kevin Webb stated that federal authorities were investigating to determine whether it was hate-crime, but declined to classify as racially motivated attack.
Ninety percent of Moffit’s body had burns, according to KNOE and she is in stable condition.
A Facebook page “Prayers for Sharmeka Moffitt has been created. By Monday afternoon nearly 17,000 people have signed-up on her page.
Freda Kennedy wrote this on her page “So we all are upset. We all have gotten our feelings out. Now, we will pray for the family and give the support (encouraging words, food, gas money for the travel, home care, care packs etc.). Stay on one accord in Christ. When the legal system, acts we need to be there to let our voices be heard. Perhaps, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, people won’t think its okay to measure the life of a black person so low. They will see us as God’s children. Then the desire to burn, beat, rape, drag and even put the life of a dog before our lives. Pray for unity and peace”.
