Two U.S Border Patrol agents were shot, one fatally south of Arizona on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The identities of the victims were not released immediately, but the shooting occurred at the Brian Terry Station, south of Tucson. The patrolmen came under fire around 1.20 am just eight miles off Mexico border. The area is dubbed “drug corridor”, officials said.
The agents were shot while on patrol, a third agent escaped unharmed in the incident. According to reports the agents were dispatched to the areas after an alarm was triggered on one of the many sensors installed in the area.
Wounded officer with gunshot wounds to his ankle and buttocks was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Authorities said the injuries were not life-threatening.
Officials were withholding the names of the agents until their immediate kith and kin are notified.
The station was recently named after Brian Terry, who was killed during a shootout with Mexican bandits in 2010.
