gunmen armed with automatic weapons and dressed in military-style
uniforms stormed into a federal Polytechnic in Mubi, north-eastern
Nigeria and have executed 25 people including 22 students, police
sources and media reports said.
The attackers executed the students after calling out their names, the reports said.
Unconfirmed reports said that at least 40 people were killed, but the reports could not be verified. It was not clear immediately who were responsible for the attack, but immediate suspicious fell on Islamist militant group Boko-Haram which has a strong backing among the leaders of the student union.
Police said investigations are underway and the motive for the attack was not known.
Nigerian Daily Post said that gunmen clad in army uniforms entered the building after killing two security guards, called out the names of the students and shot them in close range. Some students were stabbed to death.
The polytechnic was under lock-down when this report went on line.
Reports said some students who escaped the massacre sought refuge in nearby homes. And according to reports the some students were seen leaving in cars with tree tops mounted on the hood to show they were “neutral”.
