Hailey Charlotte Roser is 4 years old, and she already has a boyfriend. His name is Justin Bieber.
At least that’s what the East Troy girl said Wednesday when asked why she loves the 18-year-old Canadian pop star. Her dream date?
“Quaker Steak” she said, referencing Quaker Steak & Lube, a restaurant her mother, Sabrina, 24, once waitressed at in New Berlin, for “chicken tenders and French fries.”
Hailey might be one of the youngest Beliebers in the world, but she still has a strong case of Bieber Fever.
She has a room full of Bieber merchandise, loves to sing and dance to his music and has seen the Bieber documentary “Never Say Never” hundreds of times, said her father, Eric, 24.
For Hailey’s fifth birthday next month, Sabrina asked her daughter whether she wanted to go to Disney World or see Bieber’s concert at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Sunday.
Naturally, Hailey picked the concert.
The Rosers have two tickets, but they’re not expecting to make it to the show.
Hailey has been at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin since late August, where she was diagnosed with an atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor – a very rare, aggressive, cancerous brain tumor – with about a 50% to 60% survival rate, said Hailey’s pediatric oncologist, Sachin Jogal.
Hailey is undergoing chemotherapy and physical therapy – the tumor caused some paralysis in the left side of her body, Sabrina said. Complications from a gastrostomy tube have kept her in the hospital, Jogal said. On Tuesday, Hailey could stand to be outside for only four minutes before getting sick, her dad said.
So the Rosers are hoping, just maybe, Bieber might pay their daughter a visit at the hospital when he’s in town. Friends, family and total strangers are using social media to try to make it happen.
“The other night I couldn’t sleep, and I sent so many tweets in a row, Twitter locked me out,” Sabrina said. The campaign also has been promoted on the Healing Hailey Facebook and Twitter pages – collectively, they’ve accumulated more than 5,000 followers – and Tuesday, a social studies class at Holmen High School in La Crosse County posted a plea video for Bieber on YouTube, after teacher Travis Kowalski heard about Healing Hailey through a friend.
By Wednesday afternoon, tweets were flying practically every minute in an attempt to make the rendezvous happen.
The campaign isn’t the only way people have shown support for Hailey.
A little more than $12,000 has been raised for medical and living expenses through www.indiegogo.com/healinghailey (Eric and Sabrina have left their jobs to take care of their daughter), and a benefit is scheduled Sunday at New Berlin Bowl.
“We’ve cried so much, it’s like we don’t even have tears left,” Sabrina said. “It’s just crazy how people are impacting our lives who don’t even know us. People have been so awesome.”
