169 police officers paid nearly $ 1.5m to guard one detainee in Germany

The German government is paying nearly $ 1.5 million a month to 169 police officers to keep an eye on a detainee awaiting deportation orders.

The Berlin interior minister Frank Henkel has admitted that only person being held at the former East German women’s prison, though there is space for nearly 200 inmates.
“To guard the detainee, 169 police officers are available, according to Henkel newspaper, at a cost of nearly €1 million per month”.
The Berlin refugee council has called the center to be closed.
