An
American tourist frozen to the bone was rescued by on Wednesday night
after a spending a bitterly cold night on top of a mountain in Norway,
media reports said.
The unidentified American was reported missing after he left a train station in Rjuukan to climb a mountain approximately 4,000 feet. According the Local newspaper the tourist prepared only for a short hike got struck on the mountain’s western face.
“Due to strong winds the helicopter crew made several rescue attempts before eventually dropping off specialist mountain climbers from the Langfjella Alpine Rescue Group, who spotted the stranded tourist jumping up and down to keep warm”, the newspaper said.
Police remained in phone communication with him overnight. Just before five o’clock on Tuesday morning, the man was located by search helicopter, but difficult weather conditions initially made a rescue impossible, the newspaper added.
