A
23 year old Texas mother of five who admitted “super-gluing” her two
year old daughter to a wall and assaulting her into coma was sentenced
to 99 years behind bars in Dallas on Friday.
Before the sentencing Elizabeth Escalona appealed to the judge to
spare her prison and begged to give her a second chance. “I hit her,
kicked her constantly and she didn’t deserve that”, she said.
Escalona who did blink an eye lid or showed any emotions when the verdict was read on Friday in contrast broke down when the prosecutor asked her to count the number of bruises she inflicted on her daughter in September over “potty training issue”.
Escalona after testifying extensively in her defense said “only a monster does that”.
The district judge Larry Mitchell said “you may have had a history of sexual abuse in the past, but “you beat your child to the edge of death”.
Dallas county prosecutor Eren Price said Escalona failed to take responsibility for her actions and she “lies to hide the evil”.
Her daughter Jocelyn Escalona suffered a fractured rib, bleeding in her brain, bruises and several bite marks due to beating.
Escalona will be eligible for deferred adjudication probation.
The child abuse pediatrician Dr Amy Barton who testified during the sentencing told the court the injuries the two year old child sustained were “very shocking” and “I see a lot of children and this was one of the most shocking things that I’ve seen.”
