Turkish parliament on Thursday approved a motion that authorizes military to conduct cross border raids when deemed necessary.

Lawmakers approved the motion with 320 votes in the 550 seat parliament.
The approval came following the border skirmishes on Wednesday. Five people including a six year old were killed when Syrian army fired three rounds of mortar into a village in eastern Turkey. The Turkish government retaliated striking some targets in Syria.
Just minutes after the approval, Turkish deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay told the parliament the mandate was not declaration of war and the decision is only “when deemed necessary”.
Outside the Parliament hundreds of people protested against the motion, the police was forced to fire tear gas to disperse them.
Meanwhile on Thursday Syrian government apologized for the attacks and said it would launch investigations to determine why mortars were fired into Turkey.
