immigrant supporter, the Los Angeles city Mayor, Antonio Villaragiosa’s
persuasiveness paid off on Tuesday when the city approved
photo-identification cards for immigrants to open bank accounts.
The critics jumped right back attacking the mayor stating that Villaragiosa’s attempts would encourage the immigrants to join the city’s civic life.
“Los Angeles is making it easier for the people who have violated the federal laws to live in the city”, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform told the KTLA news.
The approval came just hours before the federation posted a press release stating that Washington tax payer’s foot $ 2.7 billion annual bill for illegal immigration.
“It’s clearly accommodation”, the spokesman for the federation has said.
Supporters of the Mayor have stated the mayor was doing the right thing because the initiative would reduce crime because less people would carry cash, an argument disregarded as “baseless”.
Los Angeles is home for 4.3 illegal immigrants.
