Several
Swedish government and private institutions websites came under DDOS
attack on Monday that has forced Internet Service Providers scrambling
to restore services, a phenomenon that has become a daily routine in
Sweden, according to experts.
Swedish media reported that armed forces website, large financial institutions and media outlets were among the “victims”. Similar attack was mounted a month ago.
“We learned our lesson from the last time around. Then we were down for two hours, now we were back after only 20 minutes,” Niklas Englund, head of Swedish Armed Forces digital media, told The Local.
“We noticed that we were generating more traffic than normal and that our firewall had stopped working.”
Supporters of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange are suspected for the attacks, a government official has claimed.
